SCRIPTURE
“God is not like man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” Numbers 23:19
SPOTLIGHT
God is not like man. God is almighty God! Numbers 23:19 clearly identifies attributes of God, unlike man. Please note that this verse tells us:
1) God is not man/ He is divine.
2) God does not lie/He is truthful.
3) God does not change His mind/He is dependable.
4) God speaks and acts/He is reliable.
5) God fulfills His promises/He is faithful!
H.G. Wells was a renowned historian. He was not a religious man but after he studied the history of the human race, he concluded:” Religion is the first and the last thing, and until man has found God and been found by God, he begins at no beginning, he works to no end. He may have friendships, his partial loyalties, his scraps of honor. But all of these things fall into place and life falls into place only with God.” (ref: Sermon Search)
God is not man made! Man often creates his own god rather than seeking for the one and only true God. David instructed his son Solomon in 1 Chronicles 28:9 “And you my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with a wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you
forever.”
If you make a god for yourself:
1) You make a fake god which is an idol. Deuteronomy 10:17,20,21 state” For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes…Fear the Lord your God and serve Him. Hold fast to Him and take your oaths in His name. He is your praise; He is your God...” A fake god is worse than fake news!
2) You are misled by your heart rather than being led by the truth. Jeremiah 17:9,10 state “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.”
3) There is no room for truth/God. Psalm 10:4 states “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”
4) You are a fool for trusting yourself. Psalm 14:1 states, “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God,” You are rejecting God Who reveals Himself to you in many ways. Proverbs 28:26 states “He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.”
5) You mock being a sinner who needs forgiveness. Proverbs 14:9 states “Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright.”
God has no beginning or ending. He cannot be fully explained because he is infinite. This gives you a choice. You can be against God or you can be for God, but you cannot be without God. He is alive and he exists forever more. God made you and loves you regardless of what you think!
What you desperately need is God’s blessing. Numbers 6:24-26 state “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
SOMETHING TO DO
Ask yourself these questions:
1) Is God #1 or do I idolize other things or people?
2) Am I being misled by my heart?
3) How am I guarding myself from being proud?
4) Do I trust myself more than God?
5) Do I quickly confess my sin?
